How to Check Equipment Condition and Refurbishment Scope

Workshop work area

Ask what was done to the specific unit, what evidence is available and what remains to be confirmed. The word refurbished is a starting point for a detailed discussion.

Identify the unit being discussed

Request the manufacturer, model and available identification details for the offered equipment. Ask for actual-unit photographs and make sure the description, photos and quotation refer to the same machine.

Website range illustrations help show equipment types. They should not replace the photographs and information used to assess an individual offer.

Ask for a clear account of completed work

Refurbishment scope can differ between machines. Request an itemised description rather than assuming every component has been replaced.

  • Inspection and functional checks completed
  • Cleaning, repair and reconditioning work completed
  • Parts replaced and details available for them
  • Known defects, missing components or remaining work
  • Available supporting photos, videos and records

Confirm configuration and documentation

List the attachments and accessories you need. Ask which are included and which are separate. Request the operating and installation documentation available for the selected model.

If your project requires particular compliance documents, identify those requirements in your enquiry and request documents applicable to the actual equipment. A badge in a reference image is not evidence for another unit.

Record the agreement before ordering

Confirm the unit, condition description, included items and agreed commercial terms in writing. Ask for any applicable warranty or support terms, including their scope and exclusions, rather than assuming a standard policy.

  • Actual equipment identification and configuration
  • Agreed scope of any remaining work
  • Delivery and packing arrangements
  • Written support terms applicable to the purchase
